Irish Dance Dresses by Rula Clint

My name is Rula Clint and I live in Houston Texas, USA. I studied Pattern making technology at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY and Fashion and costume design for the theatre and cinema in Paris. Afterover 25 years of working in the garment industry in pattern making, quality control, fashion design for evening wear and theatre costumes, I was asked to make a Solo Irish Dance dress for a friend’s daughter. Based on this experience and the great feedback I received, I was inspired to learn more about the designs and techniques of Irish Dance Dresses. Having mastered the specialist skills needed to create dresses that not only look fantastic but also feel amazing to dance in, I have made a small number, displayed on this site and available for purchase. However, recognizing that dancers have individual design preferences and cost constraints, my goal is to work with customers to come up with a design that is just right for them. To assist in visualizing designs I have included a number of sketches that might serve as starting points in the design process. All my dresses will be made with sufficient material at the seams to allow for later alteration, and have, I believe, the unique feature of being hand washable. The dresses are surged lined, to facilitate alterations, using %100 cotton fabric for comfort. I always leave 2” let-out in the in the bodice for alteration.
